My emerging environment…

Posted in FET8611 - Emerging Environments for Learning with tags , on August 31, 2008 by brucek

Just as I promised to add thoughts to this space on a weekly basis, I drop off the radar and come back almost a month later. Well this is why…

The emerging environment for learning I refer to (that has been draining my time and energy) is an international school of 310 students where I am the IT Coordinator. Emerging onto a new campus for the 2008-2009 school year.

My role has been to install and configure and get up and running the myriad of network, phone, P.A., wireless and other systems required at the school, some of which (at the start of the process) I had some knowledge and some of which I had none. Well, now I have knowledge of all at the cost of my study, weekends and too much family life!

That’s not to say it is all working as it should, but “we’re getting by” is becoming my mantra. And with an overcast Sunday waking up outside my window and an entire Saturday spent away from work (oh how un-dedicated of me!) I fear it is time to dive back into the other emerging environment and find out if I can catch up!

Until next week!

Getting ones thoughts together!

It has taken some time but finally things are starting to come together, and all it took was cleaning off my desk and making my working space actually useable!

So, FET8611 – Emerging Environments for Learning. I am starting to get my head around what is required, although the assessment items will need another read through because I still don’t quite understand what is going on there. I think I have decided what my “facilitated page” will be about thanks to a couple of forum posts from other course members and a look at some of their knowledgeGarden pages. I shall attempt to investigate the integrated use of screen capture software, podcasting and iPods in developing a staff professional development program.

As for the rest of the assignments, I shall be spending a good few hours reading more as I fear one has come and gone already!

Off to the reading!
